WordPainting is a total creative journey
involving journaling, painting, calligraphy,
poetry and feeling. Advanced calligraphic
or graphic training is not required! The
most important qualifications are curiosity
and courage: the willingness to compose,
write and paint simultaneously. Emphasis
will be placed on improvising the painted
surface as opposed to formal layout and
design: composing with your own
stream of words for text as opposed to
working with prewritten texts. WordPainting
helps you enter your own landscape of
personal issues through a series of
exercises that help free you from traditional
design solutions and listen to your own
poetic voice. WordPainting requires a
minimum of 2.5 days; the half day can
be a Friday afternoon or evening session
before the weekend. A short pre-writing
or journaling assignment will be given
prior to the class.
WordPainting on the Ocean
is a retreat I have been conducting every
spring in my own town of Fernandina
Beach on Amelia Island, Florida...
five nights and four days of total
immersion in WordPainting; a retreat
for four to six participants. For fees
and details, please contact me.
