A one to two hour workshop in which
kids can make several simple bookforms,
ideal for library groups or after school
programs. Participants are encouraged
to invent texts for their books, and, if there
is enough time, a simple story can be put
into one of the books. The workshops
can be age-specific, or can be a mixed
group of adults and their children and
promoted as a family workshop. The
kids are given clear instructions in
correct folding and cutting of paper.
Models of the books are made with
fun and interesting materials, so they
can use them for projects in school and
at home.
Some of the books we learn to make:
Burrito Books
Accordion fold books
Single signature stitch books
French fold books with pop-up elements
Flag Books
Caterpillar Books
Japanese Bindings
The emphasis will be on being able to
make these books with inexpensive tools
and recycled materials when possible.
Pre-cut materials, tools, such as scissors,
stick glue, and handouts with instructions
are provided. References, fees and more
information available upon request.
